Social Medias direct impact on the upcoming presidential election

Over the years social media has become the main driver when it comes to voters for any sort of election in the United States. With the constant growth of Social Media and the more uninformed young people are on the topics of politics, young adults are making decisions based on what they see other people do on social media. Although in some cases this can go unnoticed it is now a mass amount of individuals who use what they see on their screens as their own. This is also a huge problem with the upcoming of AI in social media.

As most remember the moment just a few years ago when the U.S. capital was stormed because of the false election theories many believe that the upcoming of AI could make this so much worse. Ai has created many ways for people to manipulate images and videos and create content on social platforms of people who they are not that would look valid and eligible. This can cause fabricated videos and photos to be a way for young adults to get swayed in their voting or in other words get "faked out" by the voices of who they think they are hearing from. Making their voting decision off of a deepfake.

  1. I really enjoyed reading this entry, and I really appreciate how this blog entry talked about AI and its influence on politics. I have already seen the impact that AI has had on social media, as people can create false images and videos that look incredibly realistic. I remember people creating DeepFakes of politicians, and it was alarming to read the comments on those posts where they were saying how it was real and to be cautious when voting although it was completely fabricated. Great and informative post!

  2. Social media's rise has been meteoric and generally been a good thing. The decentralized nature of it makes it easy to spread false information as you pointed out. The rise of AI images, videos, and audio will make it difficult to discern between factual or not. The long term effects are yet to be understood.

  3. The possible effects of deepfake technology on democracy worry me greatly, especially as it has the capacity to influence elections and public opinion. The integrity of our democratic institutions is seriously threatened by the massive circulation of fake content on social media platforms. In order to solve this urgent problem and protect the integrity of our elections, we must move pro-actively and implement strong detection algorithms, media literacy training, and cooperative initiatives.

  4. Technological advances, such as AI technology reference the moral wrongdoing of political sectors. The use of altered content, to an average viewer with minimal exposure to the technology could be passed off as the truth, furthering the idea of fake news and such. We must solidify verification of technology sources, such as within IG, Twitter, etc to reflect the provided set of information is not accurate.
